Remember the days when our parents would take out a large hard-covered, spiraled case looking thing that had our photos in it. Well, our parents used to call them photo albums.
We can still find them in some corner of your store room gathering dust and facing the challenges of a bygone era. Long lost and forgotten, we know very well that we shelved them in our memories and yet they are not in our lives anymore. Mohit Bansal Chandigarh, a popular photographer recalls the time when photo albums were in demand. “They are not as relevant to people anymore I guess.”
But not all the people have boycotted the tradition, some still wish or long to print everything they capture; be it wedding albums, childhood photo albums or any album with funny memorable stupid things. So, how exactly relevant are albums these days, or to be specific in 2019. Let’s find out:
Albums are Declining But Not Dead
If you compare the print count in 2000 to 2017 you’d notice a significant decline. Its obvious, as the new technology is making way slowly into lives, the means of how we used to treasure memories are also changing.
It’s been heard numerous times that print is dead. No way it’s true, not by a big margin. When it it comes to printed photos or albums, those are still romantic. Mohit Bansal Chandigarh says that it’s a classic method of cherishing memories, turning every page of the album like leaves and listening to the sticky sound it makes. Nostalgia for sure!
Print Is Still Popular
Regardless of what the stats say, clicking photos and getting them turned into albums are still very much alive. In fact, millennials are way more into photographs. Speaking through a personal experience Mohit Bansal a photographer from chandigarh says, “I’m surprised to see the number of youngster come at office and ask us to print images of their loved ones.”
Although he did witness a downfall in the same and yet seeing the youth take interest in albums is heartwarming. It’s another fact that some people print photographs on their own. Since you don’t have to install a color lab, meddle with chemicals to develop photos. You can just snap them and command to print and voila!
Hard Copies Are Way More Safer
What happens when all the light goes out? What happens when internet crashes and all the cloud data is vanished? Or simply, your laptop’s hard disk is corrupted and same with your smartphone? What will you do? No matter how much you argue about technology, in some departments, old school are still way better. Mohit Bansal Chandigarh says you can get those photos printed and keep them in cupboard.
All you know, it’s still there when you come home when lights are out. Plus, it cannot be stolen nor can be hacked. Its as safe as a boulder in the storm. Take another instances, technology is evolving pretty fast, just a couple of years back, we used to store data on USB drives, before that on DVDs. Are we still using those means? Not quite profoundly.
Albums are Way to Heart
You know what makes album special? The fact you can hold it into your hands. Undoubtedly, you can do so with your smartphone as well only the feeling is not the same. Caressing your fingers gently through the photos, getting a reminiscence of the time when these were clicked and humble goosebump all across your body, albums have those sort of effect.
It’s also a reminder of the long lost people that were once dear to you and you lost them in the journey of this pitiful life you find beauty in. You can embrace the giggles and laughter echoing deep into your ears, yearning for you to remember of moments they blew a snot or fell off the table doing something stupid. And suddenly you find yourself dropping tears, to laugh or cry, definitely to express what was about to be forgotten.
