I’ve been a gamer for a very long period of time and deciding a favorite console amongst two industry giants was a tough task for me. Although I owned both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2, I had to settle with PlayStation once PlayStation 4 got released. I mean, the way they designed the controller and the console itself was just impeccable.
I’m not saying that Xbox One and One S are not good consoles, I just prefer PS4 and PS4 Pro over them. While both console giants are good in their own ways, Sony has always managed to get an upper hand in the console wars and one of the reasons is the new features that they introduce with every model. When Sony first introduced the 4K feature in PlayStation 4 Pro, the gaming community (including me) went crazy.
Even the Xbox players got the taste of 4K gaming with the release of Xbox One S and Xbox One X. I’ve tried all of these consoles and I personally prefer the Sony consoles. And That is mainly because of the controller designs and amazing PlayStation exclusives that are not playable anywhere else rather than the PlayStation itself.
Now, it has been revealed by Sony that the PlayStation 5 will be released during Holiday 2020. And reports suggest that it will be packed with a lot of new features such as Haptic Feedback which will replace the rumble feature and will allow the players to even feel textures like when the character steps in mud, grass, etc. The controller will also have adaptive triggers that will allow the developers to control the resistance of the triggers.
And coming back to the PlayStation exclusives, the developers of the PlayStation classic Shadow Of The Colossus will be developing a PS5 game, as reported by Sony itself. Now, considering that Shadow Of The Colossus was a masterpiece, we can be sure of the fact that the game under development for the PS5 will be worth the wait and money.
Now, talking of a PlayStation classic, the PlayStation 5 will also come with a feature that players have been waiting for since PlayStation 3. Yes, I am talking about backward compatibility. Gamers have been waiting for a long time for this feature in the PlayStation consoles and it seems like we’ll get what we want. Yes, we will be able to play all the previous PlayStation games in the PlayStation 5.
This means that the PS4 games we bought will be playable on the new PlayStation 5. Now, along with these cool features, there’ll also be an upgrade in the energy efficiency of the console. According to Gamespot, “Though Sony has been generally quiet about the PS5 since its announcement, it came forward to reveal just slightly more information in conjunction with the announcement of a United Nations initiative. The Playing for the Planet alliance aims to make the video game industry more environmentally friendly”.
They further added, “To that end, Sony announced that the next generation of its hardware will use dramatically less power when placed into suspend/sleep mode. Just one million PS5 users turning on the energy-efficient feature would save enough electricity to power 1,000 US homes. The company is also conducting a carbon footprint assessment and looking into more energy-efficient data centers”.
This means that we’ll be able to enjoy our favorite PS4 games and the new and amazing PS5 games all in the same console while saving a lot of energy. Now isn’t that just perfect? Now, one of the biggest questions that must be popping up in everyone’s head is “how much will it cost?”.
Considering the history of the company with the pricing of the consoles (talking about the unreasonable price-point of the PS3), the price might fall in the range of the current console, i.e, the PlayStation 4 Pro. Gamespot also reported “Sony has not stated how much its new console will cost, but it did say just recently that the PS5’s price will be attractive to gamers. “I believe that we will be able to release it at an SRP [suggested retail price] that will be appealing to gamers in light of its advanced feature set,” said Mark Cerny, the lead architect of the PS4 who’s currently working on its successor”.
That’s a classic Sony move. They didn’t disclose the exact price of the console but they did give us a hint. Seems like they have learned a lot after the harsh feedback of high PS3 prices. Well, I am very excited about PS5 and I do think that it will be the best PlayStation to ever be released. I mean, it’s the generation after the next-generation… what less could you expect from it? In the end, I would love to know your thoughts about the features and expectations of PS5. Feel free to start a discussion in the comments below.
